REBECCA
DENNIS has studied watercolour, clay sculpture, acrylic and oil
painting and figure drawing in Toronto, Waterloo, Winnipeg, Edmonton and
Vancouver Universities.
Her varied interests have merged to mosaics where she produces many of the
functional pieces such as tables, credenzas, trays, trivets and mirrors.
Commissioned pieces, including walls, floors and fireplaces, have extended her
work into the realm of a more pure art form.
Rebecca's pieces often display motifs, symbols of nature and even abstract
movement of colour, influenced greatly by her love of the Arts & Crafts era
of the late 18th century.
Her expertise marries this ancient art form with modern functionalism and
dynamic colour.
PAULA
FUNT graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute with a degree
in Interior Design in 1981.
She is a talented colour enthusiast who uses the very nature of mosaics'
contrasts to create the images of her designs. Her style is bold and daring,
combining the colours of mixed fragments of glass and tile that fuse together
to form textured colours like the nap in velvet or taffeta.
Paula's design background has inspired many of the wrought iron creations in
the mosaicwares Collection. The very essence of her style is animated and
spontaneous, its flowing nature being quite complimentary to the cool hard
wrought iron, resulting in a harmonious balance. She is inspired by all forms
of visual information, ranging from colour sets picked up from gardening, to
those found on the city streets.
She also avidly researches the viability of incorporating new materials, paints
and finishing techniques in the Collection.
